Abstract

Lampedusa Beach is the testimony of Shauba, a young African woman shipwrecked off the coast of Lampedusa. Swallowed by the sea, she tells her experience: the dream of a better life, the injustice of the world, but also her primordial relationship with water, with her Mediterranean identity. The setting is the horizon line of the Mediterranean Sea that varies and oscillates with the movement of the water and the light that is reflected and refracted in a white space composed of overlapping paper scraps that become sails, rocks, waves and an abyss of Light in which Shauba's voice and breathing echo.

Press review

Theatre, life (and death) of the migrant Shauba

The sets are splendid, and above all the lights by Paolo Calafiore, who has created a lunar palette, in whose folds one can read a complex life that feels the need to dissolve in water.
