Abstract

Lampedusa Snow changes location completely, taking place in the Orobie Alps, at about 1800 meters above sea level where Mohamed is welcomed (or forced) into a reception camp; the young African engineer, tired of the seemingly never-ending wait, decides to look for a way out to reach the other side of the mountain, but in spite of himself he is enveloped by the cold and snow until his last breath of life. The setting changes, the Lampedusa rock covered in overlapping white textures dissolves and changes the light, becoming a peak suspended in the white, ethereal and milky fog.

Between black and white: the story of a migrant lost in the snow

Two colours, black and white chosen by Paolo Calafiore for the sets and lights. A Kevlar net, a fiber more resistant than steel, also used to camouflage weapons under the snow, absorbs the stage and induces the strange dialogue between Mohamed and a partisan who will teach him ‘the rules and mechanisms’ of the revolution.
